I have an ACS R5, it is working fine. The only issue we have is that we cannot forward our system phones to an outside line - like a cell phone or home phone. I know by upgrading to R7 we will be able to do this. But are there other benefits - features - that the R5 doesn't have?

Thanks

R5 can not do a t1 card. so, no DID's R7 Can

R5 works well with Partner Mail VS, R7 does not.

That's about it.

You gain a few lines in capacity from the R5 to R7 (only like 2)

The R7 has had problems from the get-go.

It was supposed to be nothing more than a 5x9 version of the Partner ACS (as opposed to the more familiar 3x8).

The problem is that Avaya messed around with Partner ACS's software and then released the processor into the marketplace before all of the bugs were worked out.

As a result, Avaya has had to issue a set of patches to correct various problems.

Some Avaya Business Partners refuse to sell the R7 processor. They will sell and install the R6, which has proven itself and is still in production today.

The R7 will be the final version of the Partner ACS ever made. Avaya will end production of the Partner platform in 2010. [cry]

Not a very fitting way to retire a fine system like the Partner. [cry]

Thank you both for the responses. I guess, if anything, we will upgrade to the r6, since it has the feature that we need, and we will not have any issues with VM. Just one more question: Can I do a software upgrade, or do I have to do a hardware upgrade.

Also, any news as to what is going to replace the Partner.

Thanks

Yes to the software upgrade. Avaya Business Partners can flash any R1 through R5 processor up to the R6 level. [smile]

It is believed that the IP-500 will be named the successor to the Partner ACS. Avaya has not made the official announcement, but word has already leaked out that the end is near. [cry]

Iit makes sense, as the IP500 is priced so it can compete in the same pricing structure as the Partner system. Only with it took the 2-pair MLS and Partner phones.

If you are ever thinking of usint the Partner T1 card. DO not flash up to the R6, buy the new hardware.

I had nothing but problems on processors, that were flashed to R6, once the T1 card was installed.
