What are perflib_perfdata files and how do I eliminate them?

For the past several months I have been finding two tumors in my TEMP folder. A new file is generated at least once every day. The latest files have the names:

Perflib_Perfdata_b8.dat (or a9, or c4, etc)
ZLT07f85.TMP

although the numbers may differ every day. I'm assuming that the 7f85 in the ZLTO7f85.TMP is hex, but that's about it.

Internet searches tend to link the Perflib... files to Nero (DVD/CD burning software), and they seem to have started accumulating around the time I bought a DVD burner (w/Nero6 bundled) but Nero (aka Ahead software) claims their software is not associated with any files having names starting with the string Perflib_Perfdata.

One search of the MS Knowledgebase linked the Perflib files to Performance Monitor, although I've looked at PM and as far as I can tell, I'm not monitoring anything with PM.

Unfortunately, each day I see additional files in these two naming formats, which tend to accumulate in my \temp folder, so it appear that they are not very temporary.

Does anyone know what these files are, why they are there, and how I can get rid of them.

Thanks,

S
