Hi;
I'm running on IDS v7.3.I do want to make copy of data in database of the primary server in another machine(as update as posible eg every hour,minute,...).
I'm thinking of load,dbexport,enterprised replication,... .
Which of them are more suitable and please tell if there are any other solutions.
Thanks.

Hi:

You don't say what you want to do with the backup, and that probably makes your decision:

1) Enterprise Replication is probably your best bet. Keep in mind, the database on the backup is read only. You can run report type processes against the backup, but you can't change any data.

2) dbexport requires placing a lock on the database, so that's not really feasible easier.

3) Any application you might develop similar to dbload won't work well in a database with heavy OLTP.

Regards,

Ed

1. High availabily replication, replicates the whole database and useful if you need instant update of the whole database.
2. Enteprise replication allows you to selectively update another database. Good if you need instant update on selected tables.
3. You can use triggers to update other databases if you do not have many tables you need to copy. Just write an insert update and delete trigger which will access the remote database.
4. load and unload is slow and not really recommended. If you have a small number of tables, which can be updated at the end of the day, I suggest you configure your high performance loaded instead.
5. dbexport and dbimport can be an option for day end sync, but takes alot of time. Only recommened for small databases.
