Answer first. Yes, no, and maybe.
Cat5 , ususally unshielded twisted pair solid wire subject to breakage when bent many times. Ususally wired to punchdown blocks or patch panels with a punchdown tool.
Patch cables are usually unshielded twisted pair stranded wire that are more flexible and not subject as much to breaking. Short usually, and derived the name from the patch boards that they connected together.
Jump cables will be similar to patch cables but longer to get from a wall patch block to the machine.
From one end of a connection to the other, the signal wires used must be reversed, sending pair to receiving pair. This is handled within the patch board/patch block. The cable from the patch blocks to machines are straight thru, wires 1 to 8 on one end connect to wires 1 to 8 on the other end.
If you don't have a reverse between the machines you use a crossover cable that reverses them.
