I have been fumbling my way through managing our phone system for many years now. I guess I should begin to learn a little more about this phone stuff.

One question that I have is "What is an adjunct used for?"

I use the number 7300, 7304, etc. at times to free up an extension when the time comes to move or renumber an extension currently in use. Also, if someone can point me to a good telephony 101 for dummies, that would be much appreciated.

Adjuncts are extensions without physical ports. You can use them for phantom mailboxes, auto att. DID's, anything you don't need an actual port for.
