I'm currently using Data Rescue II and it's been running for about 5 hours and says 2568 Hours remaining. (that's 3 months!) I think it's stuck on a bad sector.

In his epic YouTube video series, Data recovery dude Scott Moulton raves about software for Linux that skips bad sectors durring a cloe and says there's "programs out there" for Mac
Anyone know of these programs?

If you use a bootable CD/DVD for the data recovery, do you necessarily have to have a "mac compatible" app to run?

Even if you can't run a bootable Linux disk on the Mac hardware, can't you take the hard drive out, plug it into an IBM based-pc, and then boot from a Linux CD? There are some special-made recovery disks just for this purpose, I believe.
