Hi
I would like to setup a wireless network in a statue park. The park is about 100x100 meters, in the middel is a concrete bunker and the server is in front of this,
there are also several large metal statues spread across the park.

my idea is to have 1 main accesspoint where the server is (X), then to have 2 satelite accesspoints on a and b.

this should cover all of the park accept directly behind the bunker which is ok.

now what i need to know is: which accesspoints should i get? 11mbit is fast enough as it will only be for internet, the 2 satelites will need to be able to recieve the signal from the main accesspoint and send it on.

Thank you.
Thomas

I learned a bit yesterday, today i learned a lot, imagine what i'll learn tomorrow!

If this is a fairly open park you should be able to cover it with a single access point.
Get yourself one that you can connect an external antenna to.
Get the antenna out in the clear and give it a go to see how it works.

Let me point out that there are few access points at the moment that support WDS - "...the 2 satelites will need to be able to recieve the signal from the main accesspoint and send it on."

There are only a couple of Access points that would do WDS, and to my knowledge all are 802.11G and not 11 mbs 802.11B. One reason for this is that the Access Points using WDS effectively get their bandwidth cut in half.

I think you will have to use more than one access point, as 100 meters ominidirectional is stretching things too much. The only sane way to do this is to setup an access point and do a site survey. You can do a reasonable job with a laptop and netstumbler:
