We are an Avaya BP who have recently found our way into the Nortel base. I am quite sure this is going to be a major ordeal but I need to know. If someone knows NOTHING about Nortel and is now required to know how to do basic admin tasks (reset passwords, move extensions, etc), on EVERY version of Norstar and BCM how complicated is that?

On Avaya, for example, if someone came to me and said I know IP Office 1.0 I would say to them that they know the basics but they have a good deal to learn.

I just need to know, from a Nortel perspective, is there any carry over from one platform or one version to the next? Or are each very unique?

It is like comparing apples to pencils.

Norstar and BCM have their own forums here too

within their platforms its not bad. Of course there are newer options as the release grow. I like to think of the BCM as a Norstar with a GUI interface, but there are definitely differences, but both are easy to navigate through.

Neither of them are anything like the full blown Nortel PBX. totally differnet animal.

Are you trying to learn how to work on Norstar's / BCM's or just Options? I'm asking cause the N* and BCM are similar via telset programming. The Option / CS 1000's are totally different especially if your working via command line. It is pretty much Nortel's own language on the PBX's and definitely something you cannot wing by no means. Good luck you have your work cut out for you.
