I have a Western Digital 320GB SATA hard drive and the programs I am running say it is running at 255 celcius. I don't know what is going on. I am using HDDLife and ActiveSMART and they both say the same thing. Please help.

chuck11,
Obviously that is unlikely as 255C is some where around 490F.

Perhaps 25.5C ??

No. It says 255C not 25.5C. I'm starting to think there is something wrong with the onboard SMART chip. What do you think?

I already did. They say the drive is fine but its obiously not. It's only after a long period of time too like a couple of hours.

The software you are running or what is being reported by the HD is at fault. There is no way the HD would run at 255C.

And still be functional!!! Most Solder liqifies below this temp.

That's what I am figuring but does that mean my hard drive is crap? Its weird. I am now constantly using it, by playing media files (movie files, music) and it hasn't crashed but if I just leave it going downloading my torrent podcasts and stuff, it crashes and windows comes up with disk flush delay and something like that.

Well this is the first indication that there is a functional problem as there is no mention of this in your initial posts.

If you want constructive replies please provide all the information that you have gathered up front. Versus adding layers of complication as we go.

If there are only problems with your "torrent pod casts and stuff' that is where I would begin to look for a solution. If this is the only place(s) that you are glitching out there must be some item in this program that is causing this.

Why dont you just use ure fingertips to touch the drive, it should be possible to leave the fingers on for some little time. Wet your fingertip first, just in case. If the drive has more then 50C you certainly would feel it.

Yeah, I'm sorry, I accidentaly wrote the entire post initially but since I'm new, I hit preview post and thought I was done. I dind't notice that so I later wrote another and I forgot to write everything. I will try looking into the program but it doesn't burn my finger.
