I have 4 western digital harddisk's 1 of them failed the data lifeguard tools Quick test only, all other tests passed.and no bad sectors.came up.Quick test status code=07 failed readtest element, failure checkpoint =65.But green pass check marks on the drive for smart status,on the opening page,in data lifeguard tools.
The thing I can't understand is this drive is working ok,writes to it,and reads from it,mp3's,movie's,and install's program's ect.all ok...They all seem to run ok to.I don't see anything wrong with this drive???Can this be fixed? recently formated to NTFS file system. Was a Fat32 drive. Not much on the drive at this time. It's a 80gig drive, out of warrenty.
Anyone ever have this problem?

I would take off the data and use the western digital diagnostic software prog to write zeroes to the hard drive and then run the tests again.

Thankyou garebo; It worked,I took of all data, then used the Diag.software and clicked on write zeroes to harddisk.then re-initalized harddrive and formated NTFS.Then ran all the test's again, and the drive passed them all.Do you think this drive will be ok for while?

It should be ok. Its possible the mbr was a bit off and the zero write will fix this, i believe. The zero write will fix a few problems, thats why i use it a lot.
You know when you try to format a hard drive using win98 boot disk and fdisk and then format and you get the message "cant format a network drive"? Well, it works for that as well. Works for a lot of problems, probably puts the drive back to the condition it was when new, or at least closer to that.
I would also run scandisk and if your hard drive is ok then you should be ok. But we all back up our data anyway, dont we? lol. I would back up religiously for a bit just to make sure. If the drive is ok in a week it should be ok.
But, again, fun aside, we should all back up our data anyway.
Thanks for the star!!!

Your welcome and Thankyou. Now I'm just wondering hoe I can back up my entire c drive to another drive,to have this just in case the c drive ever fails.I backed it up using backup in xp pro,but some files didn't back up,said they were in use.?IS there a easy way to do this ,I have the extra drive and enough space.

I personally have never understood using any Windows based backup software on a drive containing an OS simply because one has to reinstall the OS before the restore part of the software (which has to be reinstalled too) becomes functional.

Instead, I use imaging software, which performs a bit-bit copy of a partition or drive to a different drive or partition. A restore then simply consists of booting its recovery CD or diskette(s) followed by a restore of the image. I personally use Acronis True Image 8. Another popular package is Norton Ghost (formerly PowerQuest DriveImage).

I agree with Freestone. Personally, what i do is simply back up my data and then also make a cd with my drivers on it. I have a program that does that for me. I think its free, so if you want it let me know. I think you can google it yourself, its called "my drivers", I have version is 3.0. If its not free you can likely find a free one that will do the same.

One can also use the driver cdrom for the mobo and the other add-on items like pci and agp cards, printers, etc have their own driver cdrom. So that can be done more than one way.
Also, there are a ton of backup programs out there that will backup your data to another hard drive or cd or dvd. Bear in mind that win xp has its own backup that will back up your data.
The reason i dont use imaging software is because i feel if my system is that bad i should simply just re-install from the os level on up. However, imaging software, in my opinion, is better than simply backing up data. So i do actually agree with Freestone.
