My wife got me a 1 terabite harddrive for Christmas A year ago. After less than 6 months it died taking a lot of my files with it. Upon internal examination, it would appear that the onboard power supply failed. Burn marks evident on the pc board. As Western says component parts are unavailable due to mods in assembly, I was wondering if there might be a way of removing the internal disk drive unit (looks alot like a typical HD) and powering it in order to retrieve my files? Thanks, Hank

Again unsure why you posted this in the windows 95/98 forum, and not general hardware, or hard drive issues forums, but again okay. Yes you can probably take it out and hook it to an internal sata port on a desktop, or get another sata to USB solution to go into a USB port. HOWEVER since WD encrypts the data, no you would not be able to get your data back. You may be able to if you can find another of the same model, and transplant your drive into it, to see if it will see the drive and files.
