We're having a problem with our Reporting Services 2005 installation. It's on a freshly built 2003 Server that hasn't yet had much use at all.

Every time someone first tries to navigate to Reporting Services through the web browser it takes a long time to come up, maybe up to 5 minutes. After that everything runs as normal. If someone closes their browser and operns it a some time later again the first time navigating to reporting services is very slow.

Any ideas what might be happening? Any ideas where to look for the cause of the problem?

What are they going to? A report or a listing of reports? If they are going directly to a report of course it will be long winded until its cached. This will be on your optimization of the dataset query behind it and the report functionality itself.

Do you see any really long running times in the ExecutionLog table?

Select * From ExecutionLog

If all they need to do is run reports I wouldn't send them to the report manager site. you're loading several components that you do not need.

Have you checked IIS to make sure it's not setup in some way causing the load times? Could also be several other things that come to mind.

I would check here google search and start trouble shooting things down the list. Could be IIS not setup right and or security and on.
