I have WEP encryption on my access point using 64 bit on several computers using windows 2k pro without a problem, After entering the same settings with XP professional it will not accept my network key, such as "westside" it says it must be 40bits or 104 bits. Any assistance will be appreciated.

If you are using something like netgear and using their utlity , they use something called a passphrase generator and you can put any word you want in their and it will automatically fill in the rest of the key even if it's not 40 or 128 bits . You need to change it so it doesn't use the passphrase generator and you will need to manually put in the keys , not sure how long 40 bits , seems like 10 characters or so , 128 is like 26 characters and they must match exactly on the router and all your clients .

OK. This might not be the best thread to post this in, but for 2 years I've had no problems w/my wireless card. However, I now go to a coffee house that requires a password (network key). I know the prob. must be on my computer b/c I can connect w/my IPAQ OK, but not my notebook. I can connect to their network with a strong signal...but can't send/receive any bits, therefore no internet or email. This issue is this - they have an 8 character text password, however when I enter this password it says it must be either 5 or 13 characters. They have a WPA something, with TPIK? I've tried to find a place in my settings to let my wireless card know this, but I am stumped. Anyone know the way around this?
Thanks

You probably should have started a new string on this, since it is not really related to the original topic. It sounds like you need to update the drivers for your wireless card. WPA is a newer standard and I commend the coffee house for implementing it. Also make sure you have your windows software up to date and your wireless client.
