Some time back we bought and installed a Netgear AP. We also bought 2 Netgear nics and installed these. We adopted 64bit WEP and all was well. Now we have a user with an IBM Thinkpad with a built in Wireless Adapter. This will see our Wireless LAN but will not connect unless we switch WEP off. When I try and set up the nic on the IBM to use WEP and enter the keys, it says it wants 40 or 128bit security and will not allow traffic to pass from the 64bit enabled AP.
Any ideas ?
Thanks Regards Paul

You probably setup your Netgear using the passphrase , this works fine with netgear nics and AP's but will cause a problem with other cards . If you want to setup 128 you will have to enter a 26 character wep key manually on the AP and all the wireless nics manually .

Thank you both for your posts.
I have not used a passphrase. I have set up 4 x10 character WEP keys on the AP. I find that in order to use my laptop with a Netgear nic in it, I have to run the Netgear config utility and enter the relevant keys, then run msconfig to prevent the utility running at start up and then restart the laptop. If I check Use Windows to Configure my Wireless Network Settings, then enter the passphrase, I cannot connect. It seems the only way I can connect to the Netgear AP is by configuring a NIC using the Netgear utility.
Thanks, Paul.
