Welcome to the future!

I have just recieved a trial version of .Net Server. It includes
1 resource CD
1 Microsoft Windows .Net Enterprise Server RC1
1 Microsoft Windows .Net Enterprise Server 64-bit Edition RC1

Pretty cool I am just installing now.

I thought I would post this to see what you think of the .Net server either from hearsay.. playing with it etc.

I appreciate your comments That'l do donkey, that'l do

One rumour I heard about SQL Server.NET is that you could write stored proc's with VB.NET or C# instead of T-SQL!!!

That would be just amazing if true.

That is no rumor. Although I don't exactly see how that's going to work, I'm also waiting in pregnant anticipation on writing sprocs in a full fledged language.

I heard something else from the horse's mouth tonight at a user group meeting at MS here in atlanta. IIS 6 ships with .NET server, and they said that alot of the config things that we now do in the web & machine.config files are going to be integrated into IIS. Interesting.

Also, if everyone doesn't know yet, SP2 for the .NET framework has been released.

All this and a new TT. Big day.

about those SPs... here are my scenarios:

1) workstation, on domain, .NET Framework installed by VS.NET DVD

2) workstation, on domain, .NET Framework installed by
in the second scenario, the Service packs are installed correctly, in the first one, me and my boss receive an exception error during the installation.

Could that be generated by the fact that we had the .NET Framework installed by the VS.NET

Does anyone else get this Exception error???

about the .NET Server
We will be receiving it real soon. Can't wait to play with it. We have just ordered another dell server where the new OS will be installed and be used as a development server (playground hehehe) Daren J. Lahey
Just another computer guy...

IIS 6.0 is included with it yes. I am still playing with stuff. Personally I don't think we need .Net Server but it sure is fun to play with new stuff.

The server has different roles that it can play. One is called a Web Application Server(IIS) From what I can tell it configures IIS so that it can server web apps better.

I have also set up the remote desktop connection. I didn't realize this but Remote Desktop is Terminal Services running in remote administration mode. There are a few UI changes from Windows 2000 server terminal services that I like a lot, but I haven't noticed any major perfomance increases yet. Can't really tell with the configuration I am in anyway.

Thanks for you comments. That'l do donkey, that'l do
