ok...could someone explain this situation to me...
I am currently running NIS on a SparcServer 1000 running Solaris 6. I wish to upgrade to an Ultra 450 running Solaris 8. I tried this last night and everything seemed fine until I tried to change the ownership of a directory to a user which was included in /var/nis/passwd. I then tried another user and could not get it to work for any of them. The error message I received was stating that NIS could not recognize the user-name. The weird thing is that when I executed 'ypmatch' with a user name and the password file it located the user w/o error. When I changed the password for a user, it updated the proper passwd file (/var/nis/passwd). But it still will not allow me to change ownership of the user's directories. I made sure that there were not any entries in /etc/passwd for these users as well. Any help on this matter will be greatly appreciated.
