I have a system running R11.1.1.1 that we have setup with Zang for presence that we are having a weird issue with. The Workplace IX Windows app logs in correctly and seems like it is working. However, you can not make any calls. If you attempt to call voicemail it pops up with the red exclamation (but only if you try to make a call otherwise no error) that the service unregistered you. Looking into monitor I see the phone register, then get a 503 Service Unavailable, and this:
"SIP REG: registration from alphanumeric SIP URIS not allowed"

I am confused by this statement... if you cant have numbers or letters what can you have in the SIP URI? lol. We are using a FQDN that does resolve to our correct public IP externally and the internal IP internally.

I tried with and without TLS turned on (with certificate in place) and get same error. Tried logging in through the email address (does register) and with the custom web address pointed at the 46xxsettings.txt. Tried creating a new user and tried with a pre-existing user. I have fiddled with every setting in Workplace IX I can think of but it simply does not work correctly. I viewed the 46xxsettings.txt and can see it is refencing the FQDN correctly and I can see it is put in correctly under the phone service on the Workplace app. I have stayed away from R11.1 mostly to date so not sure if I am missing something or if it perhaps a fun new bug. Hoping someone has some ideas to try (or just knows it is borked on that version).

The truth is just an excuse for lack of imagination.

I figured this out... and boy do I feel stupid now. The issue was I was entering the extension name not the extension number.

"SIP REG: registration from alphanumeric SIP URIS not allowed"

What a rather odd error message to send, invalid username, or even username contains alpha characters and should only be numeric would of been far better. Anyways, just wanted to post the resolution incase someone makes the same bone headed mistake I made and sees this post.

The truth is just an excuse for lack of imagination.

Also figured out it was taking a password in manager that it wasnt actually accepting in Workplace IX. This is the second time on R11.1 that I have entered a password, without no errors or warnings, but the password was not actually usable. I had this happen with the voicemail password and now the user password. Sigh sure wish Avaya would give you some kind of indication that your password is not acceptable...

Critchey, my friend you hit the nail on the head with
"R11.1 that I have entered a password, without no errors or warnings, but the password was not actually usable. I had this happen with the voicemail password and now the user password. Sigh sure wish Avaya would give you some kind of indication that your password is not acceptable..."
