Our Philadelphia office is complaining that during some calls they hear a touch tone sound. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme nor reason to it.

I don't think so. It sounds like a touch tone. I have had conversations with people at the Philly office and not heard it though. It's really strange.

I still hear those strange tones when talki8ng to Philly sometimes. Has anyone ever seen this?

Do they use modems or faxes in the same room and do they make the annoying sounds they use to make?
Turn that off and these strange sounds will dissappear.

We have a customer having the same problem starting with 1.2 till 2.1 and Avaya cannot bring a solution.

Good luck!

The strange tones are caused by the speakers voice being close to DTMF tones. the IPO is verry sensitive in its DTMF detection

This is a known problem, to fix it un tick "allow out of band dtmf)

Some mobile/cell phones can cause DTMF'ish type chirping to be heard. We once had a problem with it in our reception area, where the large number of mobiles being used by visitor arriving and leaving was somehow pickup by the wiring.

The problem with that is it sounds Exactly like a DTMF tone. It's almost as if someone is pressing a button on the keypad.

Perphas someone is trying to mess with your head? How long have you been hearing these strange noises? *smile*

How often does it happen? On internal calls only, or external only, or a mix? Does it involve IP hardphones, sometimes or always? Only during day service or sometimes heard at night?

You know the drill - narrow it down as exactly as you can.

I will call a conference room phone there and just have a user set it down. That way I can see if there is a time interval between beeps.

Hopefully it has nothing to do with my wild and crazy youth : )
