I've searched the web to solve this problem with no results. We have dvd's from blockbuster which we can hear but no video output. It's being viewed on a monitor hooked to the pc. We also downloaded WinDVD and the codec for it, but no results. So as a last resort we formatted the harddrive and reinstalled windows. Now we have a clean machine with no video.

*&^%#$@! What do we do now? is it software or hardware???

Thanks
Tricia

Does the PC have another monitor hooked up to it in addition to the one you are trying to view the movies on?

Is the Monitor that you are using set up as the primary display, DVD's have special copyright that prevents them from being watched in anything but the primary display of a Computer.

Ignorance is not necessarily Bliss, case in point:
Unknown has caused an Unknown Error on Unknown and must be shutdown to prevent damage to Unknown.

We unplugged the CDROM and put in only the DVD.

Now the DVD works but we have no CDROM.

We downloaded the codecs for WinDVD

Thanks
Tricia

Make sure your CD/DVD drives are configured or jumped correctly (Master/Slave). If everything works when you disconnect the CDROM then i'd say that something is wrong with the drives connection/config.

Since you have 2 optical drives, I would put them both on one IDE (prefer Secondary). Make one master and the other slave, NOT CS (cable select). Your hard drive(s) should be on the primary IDE but what ever way the hard drives are configured, keep it. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
