I am currently running RedHat 6.2 on a P90 with 64MB of RAM and an HP NC16 NIC (using the lance.o module).

I have noticed recently that I am not able to access the FTP server from my internal network, but I am able to access it from the internet. There are no entries is the hosts.allow or hosts.deny files.

Our network is 12.X.X.X/255.255.255.0. The default gateway was set to 12.X.X.1.

Once I removed the default gateway, I was able to ftp, ping, etc. the server without any problems. Additonally, I can pind anything on the network from the server now (I was not able to do this before).

If I re-add the default gateway, I can access the Internet, but none of my internal clients have access to the server.

To add the gateway, I used the following command:

route add default gw 12.X.X.1

I know this is something reasonably simple that I am missing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

TIA,

just curious
what is your default gateway?
is it a switch, router, linux machine?
NT, Novell?
do you have control to make changes to it?
are you bridging on your lan?

Make sure you have a route defined to 12.X.X.X

A traceroute from the ftp server to a pc on the lan should not go to 12.X.X.1

When in doubt,,, Power out...

The Linux server is connected to the router via an HP ProCurve 4000M switch. I have also connected them together using a 100MB hub and have the same results.

There is a route defined to the 12.13.103.X network.

I am trying to connect to the server using a Windows 98 box currently, but I have the same results using NT 4.0 SP5.

I am able to ping the PC without any problems, and a tracert from the server to the PC see's only the PCs ip address.

Also, I am able to ping the server from the PC and a tracert from the PC to the server only sees the server's ip address.

I have complete control over the network so I can change whatever is necessary within reason.

Thanks for your help.
