Weird Report Issue - Detail band adds space at bottom of report at each page

I have a report with a detail band that is approx 5cm high.
In that band I have a number of fields all have "remove line if blank" set and various "Print only when expression is true"
This is so it will display different sized/type/look items each line, for instance text for a record then an image for the next record
So this works great for each record of the report until it gets to the bottom of the page.
There is a gap at the bottom of the page being the height of the band in design time.

I hope that is clear?
I have added a picture to the detail band, and have set "remove line if blank" yet there is a large gap of space at the bottom of each page

Are you using "Start detail set on new page ..." That could give you that effect.

"start on new page" is not ticked
"Start detail on new page when less than:" is set to 0.00cm

OK, I just made the picture just a few point high. Then change the height using dynamics when running the report
It works . . . but does not explain why there is blank space at the bottom of each page

Are you sure the blank space is in the details band? Is it possible that it is in fact the page footer?

(Sorry if this sounds obvious, but it's worth checking.)

Hi Mike, it is the detail band. I ran a number of tests to prove it.
Whatever the height of the details band is, is added as blank space at the bottom.
I have got around it, and this issue made me look harder at reporting ..... so there have been a number of additional benefits

The most major being that I revisited an old issue I had with dynamics and object rotation not working when using a report listener, but did work when reports were just send to a printer or a standard preview. I raised this a couple of times in previous threads here: thread184-1755484 and also here: thread184-1771243
I have found the answer and have updated the second thread with the result
