Every time I boot now, a process "pcmsvc.exe" runs and immediately consumes all my RAM and the system crawls. I think it has something to do with windows repair but I'm not sure.

I'm running The Cleaner, SpySweeper and Norton AV but they all report the system is clean.

Does anyone know what this process is for? If I kill it, my RAM immediately drops back to normal.

Thanks but how do I get rid of it? Or do I need to keep it?

I'd get rid of it. Just my opinion, you can always start it up again if need be later.

WIndows XP Pro:

Right click my computer

Click Manage

CLick the + beside Services & Applications

Click Services

On right hand side of screen look for the PCM service and click on it

Top left hand side of the right screen should say stop, click on stop

or....

double click on the service (A new window will pop up)
Click on STOP, then use the drop down (Startup type) and disable it altogether
