I have two Catalyst 1900 Switches running the Enterprise Software. When I am in privledge mode and I execute show running-config, it will drop down and show me the start of the config. Where it say's the #more prompt. What ever button I press to continue to see the config, it kicks me back to en# mode????

WHAT IS THIS!!

after the whole config is posted, you return to the priv mode prompt. what may be happening is there is only one line of config left to post by pressing space bar, and the screen doesnt move when it returns you to the prompt. does that sound right? do any other lines of config show up after you press the space bar??

I hit the space bar and it still sends me to the en#.

I know there is more to the config, then it is showing me.

The devices pause after displaying a number of lines. The default is 20. This can be changed, however by using:

IOS
line vty/con x
length <x>

CAT OS (5000 & 6000)
set length <#> [default]

If you set the length to 0 there won't be a pause and the command will scroll to the next prompt.

In other words do this:
conf t
int con 0
length 20

line vty 0 4
length 20

Geez, I should'a read a little more carefully. If you're getting a pause but then fast forwarding after hitting <enter> or <space> then you're probably looking at another problem.

Check the config under the console & vty lines. Remove any 'terminal' commands.

Are you using the console or telnet? If console then check your connection speed. Make sure it is either 9600 or matches the speed configured to the line. If there is a mismatch characters won't be interpreted correctly. (<space> may become <space> <space> <space> <space> )

Sorry for the previous post

I am not fast forwarding, I just get thrown back to the en #.

It happens in either Telnet-or Console.

Ok. Try spritzing the router with a liberal quantity of holy water and see if it screams.

Hmm. does it in telnet too. Have you tried reloading it? Possible stuck memory bit or hung process. Do you have a support contract. If so you'd probably be talking to a TAC engineer already... Double check you have enough memory for the IOS image you're running. If the processor can't allocate free memory something like this could happen. Hell you may try loading a different IOS. Clear your config and reboot... If all else fails get two quarts of kerosine and a large hammer... ----------------------------------------

I reloaded the router and presto it works. Weird. I have never seen that before. Thanks for the comments.

You would think that computers would be logical devices that behave in a predictible manner with clearly defined operating parameters...

...you would think.
