Weird Problem

Hi all!

Maybe someone could shed some light on a weird problem we had recently. We run Lotus Domino 6.5 and Lotus Notes 6.5.4. One of our users is saying that he sent a message to a certain external address and copied in also his manager by including him in the cc: field. He said that the recipients told him that they did not receive his message. We checked the mail routing logs and found that the message was only delivered to his manager. We looked at the original message which the manager received and in the To field there were indeed the internet e-mail addresses. Furthermore this user said that his message disappeared from the Sent folder.
The problem with the Sent folder was probably due to him deleting the message. But what we cannot understand and which we're finding strange is how come his manager received the message and the other recipients did not. Unless there is some unknown bug in Lotus Notes. Has anyone encountered this strange behaviour/weird problem?

Thanks

I assume that your user used to different addresses: the email-addresses for the external address and the Lotus address for the manager. If this has been the case then we are talking two different routing scenarios here:
1. Mail to the manager: NRPC routing within Notes
2. Mail to external: SMTP routing via the internet.

I don't know how detailed you run the log-level in your log.nsf. We have a very busy mailserver with 6500 users on it and therefore our loglevel just states that messages have been transferred to the SMTP gateway, but we don't see any further information.

That the manager sees the external address in the mail he received is normal - this only says that it has been sent there, but not that it has been delievered there. Do you have any possibility to check your Gateway-Servers to the internet for any log entries that this mail left your internal mailing and was sent to the internet? I don't think that the Notes log will be of much use in this case.
