Weird printing problem

i just bought a new hp 1012 printer. all my pagemaker files print on it except for 1 file.

this 1 file will print to other printers. but when i try to print this 1 particular file, nothing happens

what am i missing?

First I would ask what is different about that file? Maybe you have a restricted or corrupted font... or a corrupt graphic. How many pages? Do you get an error, if so, what error?

its a much bigger file, with many different graphics & fonts

but i can print this large file on several other printers. i can also print it on my old hp printer.

it seems that the problem is just this particular file with this particular printer

If it is much larger, try saving it as two smaller files... it may be a memory problem. The new one just may not have enough RAM to handle a file this large.

i couldnt even print 1 page.

30 minutes later, it was working ok! everything prints!

so i restarted my computer; now i can print this 1 file again

when it worked, it printed everything

Does it print from any application, or is it selective about not printing only from PM? If it is any app, then the printer is flooey, we have an HP DeskJet960 or something in the engineering dept that every now and then just stops printing and it has to be reset.

Then I would go back to guessing there is a corrupted graphic or font in that file. Reset printer, print one page from file. See if it locks up again, if not, print page 2. And so on... that will help you narrow down which page has the affliction!

Which versions of PM and Windows are you using?

Can you enlarge on "nothing happens"?

I have to say I'm not familiar with the spec of the hp LaserJet 1012 - "print languages, std. Host-based"

I suggest you print one page at a time and see which page is problematic. As Carl says, I suspect you have a dodgy image or font.

I recommend you use only TIFF or EPS images - if you have any WMF or JPGs temporarily drag them onto the paste board while you print.

Also remove any images you have imported vai Paste Special or OLE such as WordArt.

Another option is to create a PDF and print that.
