Weird printing problem

I have an HP 895Cxi that used to work on this computer (XP SP2) before it was shut down for the summer. Now, it won't print anymore. To give you a series of events, here's what happens:

1. I send a print job to the printer.
2. The printing device readies itself for the print job, just like it's going to print it.
3. Windoze XP leaps up and says, "ZOMG PRINTER ERROR CAN'T PRINT" (not verbatim, of course). However, the printing device behaves like it's going to print. It loads the paper...then sits there.

This also happens on network printers (shared printers connected to other computers)

I've tried re-installing the drivers. I even manually cleaned out the %systemroot%\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86 folder (a trick I learned from this very site).

What else should I be looking at? This is very weird.

Thanks!

Specifically what does the error message say?

Do you have any software installed that may interfere with the print job (e.g. Inksaver or things like that)...
