Ok got a good one for you guru's...

I have an Analog TN in my PBX, it's ext 8508. When I call this DN internally the modem picks up no problem, everybody is happy; however, if I assign a DID to this DN and call the DID the modem doesn't pick-up, it's as if it's not ringing but when I stat 8508 it's shows busy so obviously the call is getting to the DN, it's just not answering...

I checked the routes, they are set to VOD, tried changing them to 3vce to see if that would make a different but no luck....

Any ideas?

You probably have Distinctive Ringing on the incoming trunk route, and the modem does not like that "special" ring.

An internal call is "normal" ring.

Sometimes there is a setting on the modem to account for that special ring. Other times, it just means using a different modem that doesn't care "how" the ring sounds.

Hi GHTROUT,

As usual your jedi powers were correct :D The inbound DID route; route 0 has the DRNG set to YES; now my question is why the heck is it set to YES? Is it so the external calls ring differently then internal calls?

Things that make you go hmmmmmm.

Exactly - so users who may not have digit display phones can tell that the call might be an external client, vs. some internal co-worker. They may choose to answer one over the other. In my opinion, DRNG YES has less value in today's business and with display phones.

Here's the great news:

It's a BAD thing to change DRNG from NO to YES after users are used to "that same ring I've heard for years - and now whats this funky ring all about" Fortunately, you are not faced with doing that.

It's an EASY thing to sneak DRNG from YES to NO. People won't hear anything "new". They won't even notice a change. Anyone who thinks they did notice will start to wonder if it was just a figment of their imagination that there even was a funky ring to begin with. After all, only you are the phone wizard - they have other jobs to occupy their minds.

I say go for it - set it to NO :)
