Weird Macola Problem # 2

At another client, using Progression 7.6.300a SQL and Crystal XI, a crystal AR Aging report (with subreports) runs perfectly on one workstation, using the _data_xx_MSSQL datasource created by PWE.

The exact same report, on the exact same data source, from another workstation, returns different results!

To test this I wrote 2 or 3 quick down and dirty reports using the _data_xx_MSSQL datasource: valued inventory, open sales order value and open purchase order value. All of these ran the same, with the same results, on BOTH workstations.

I cannot get any help from Exact on this one since they did not purchase Crystal from Exact, but I have never seen anything like this in my life. The only difference is that the failing report has subreports.

Any ideas?

Don, either walk through the settings on the data source on both computers or delete both of them and relogin into Macola to have it recreate them.

Is crystal installed on both workstations (same version?) or is one running it through a web browser.

Is it dropping records?

I have already tried this. Crystal 8.5 is installed on both workstations. I wrote a couple of down and dirty crystal reports such as inventory valuation and monthly sales recap to test the reports on 2 workstations and got identical results on both.

The report in question is a variation of the AR Aging ICR. It uses a subreport to get the aging buckets by customer, and shared variables to summarize the aging buckets.

My only working theory is that the workstations are different resolution, and the section that contains the subreport is not always being displayed properly (it is conditionally suppressed) because of the resolution. Since a subreport in a suppressed section will not fire, the shared variables that total the aging buckets are incorrectly calculating the totals.

I am going to this customer again tomorrow to see if this is the case. In the meantime, I wrote an aging report that does not rely on subreports to get the aging buckets, so I should have a solution either way. I will let you know.

You may want to make sure that if you are running the reports under two different users, the report being launched is the same for both users. You of course will need to check this out in Visual Menu Builder.

You could also try increasing the MaxUserPort value on both PCs. If you are not familiar with you to do this Exact has good instructions. I have seen this value fix problems with Macola Cobol reports indicating that no invoices are in range when trying to print and it may be causing this problem.

Finally, I would suggest reinstalling Macola on both machines, reinstalling Crystal XI on both machines, reinstalling the latest version and service pack of MDAC (Microsoft Data Access Components), and finally reinstalling the latest version of the Microsoft Jet Data Engine (this will reinstall all ODBC drivers and fix many ODBC system issues).
