I have an issue where the visual billbuilder works fine in Macola demo data and 2 other companies, but it fails in the 4th company. We are getting 'Run time error 9, subscript out of range'.

The IMINVLOC, IMITMIDX and BMPRDSTR file validations all return no errors. Exact tech support has been no help so far.

Ideas?

I would look for blank '' values in key fields such as...

IMINVLOC_SQL.item_no = '' or
IMINVLOC_SQL.loc = '' or
IMITMIDX_SQL.item_no = '' or
BMPRDSTR_SQL.item_no = '' or
BMPRDSTR_SQL.comp_item_no = ''

You could also look for NULL values in the item_filler fields instead of the expected ''. In addition you may want to compare IMCTLFIL_SQL records between companies and look for extra records or inconsistencies between the two companies.

If this does not work please post at what point the error message appears as you use the program.

Scott,

Up early today huh?

Would these blank or null values not show up in the file validation reports?

The error is occurring as soon as the user tries to add a component using visual bill builder.

Maybe. I know I've seen these blank values in the product structure and it wasn't picked up by the file validation tools. And yes, I can't sleep but I'm off to bed now to give it one last try. I never should have drunken so much coffee yesterday, I had to survive an 8 hour drive and I over did it.

Don,

Do you get the same error when creating the BOM through the maintenance function?

Kevin,

No. Regular BOM maintenance works fine.

Hope you are thru this already but if not, check your data directories. Make sure not Data_backup or Data_03_old. I think this not likely the problem. Only other thing ran into, one client decided to indent thier items in item_no field. Parent were xxxx Children were _xxx where the underscorce was space. Visual Bill didn't like this. Validation tools ran fine. You would have to look for a space in the first position Left(Item_No,1) = " ". Early post mentioned null values, good thing to look for. Final idea check the data directories that don't work. Rename it, then copy a directory that does, try that one. If works something in data or in the directory, if it doesn't something in the DSN connection to the data. Forgot, if your data is SQL, check the DB and the directory.

Nothing named data* except the valid data directories themselves. No items start with a space.
