Yesterday, in the network settings window, it said I had 17 components installed, including the normal TCP/IP etc... and I was unable to even browse the internet [MSN messenger and other clients worked fine]...now today, There were just 3 components in the Network Settings main window... what gives?? How'd I get 17 in there in the first place and how [overnight] was it knocked down to 3????
Right now there's:
"Client for Microsoft Windows"
my d-link adapter and
"Tcp/Ip"
[I didn't write down what components were installed yesterday, but they're gone anyhow...somehow???]

Might be worth mentioning, but when I boot it tells me before I log onto windows that the "fontreg.exe" file is invalid or corrupt and to please reinstall it - what is that file and how do I extract it from the WinME CD? [in dos I assume, but what's the command string?]

MANY MANY thanks in advance folks, if you need more info I'll be here....thanks again, take care

I have ME at home, but I can't remember if ME uses SFC. Run SFC, if it pops up, there is an option to extract files (you'll have to specify the location of your windows disk or .cab files, just search c: for *.cab if you don't have the cd). The file should go in c:\windows\system. I think it registers fonts.

If not, write down the location of the cab files on your hard drive (or copy them to the drive off the cd). Boot off a 98 disk, and type

extract /a /y %thepathtothefirstcabfile% %filename%
%destinationdirectory%

I'd have to know what the other 14 items were, but it looks right now. Make sure you update your antivirus product and do a scan.

If the cab files are in a folder called c:\win9x, and I'm not sure what the first cab file is called, lets just say win9x_1.cab, then the command would be this

extract /a /y c:\win9x\win9x_1.cab fontreg.exe c:\windows\system

I think that's the way I used to extract files, let me know if its wrong.

I'm gonna register a new domain. MCSEsGoBackToDrivingForklifts.com
