Im trying to figure out the method to the madness on what the some person was thinking when they did what they did. I have this large poster in Illustrator someone sent to our store. The Illustrator is sliced into grid 16x20, 320 squares give or take, and then there is random smaller slices within some of the grid. Everything is converted to raster, so it shows up with a good 400 placed images in the links pallet.

WHY IN ******** WOULD SOMEONE DO THIS?!?! Lol

Seriously, it just blows my mind. Can anyone shed some light on why this would be done?

The person used some effects which would need flattening, but you can match your colour from raster to colour if you set your colour settings right. So that doesn’t justify making everything raster. And were not making a webpage so why have everything sliced into a few hundred pieces?

The poster prints like arse at where all these slices are.

I just home someone can explain to me why someone would do this.

Cheers

Shoot, you cant edit your posts..

That one point there,

You can match your raster with vector if you set up your colour management correctly in all your software..

Getting a little closer in my hunt for answers...

It looks almost like they used the Object Mosaic filter, but the weird thing is.. when I click on a section of it and drag it away, it just repeats itself like if I was doing a clone and option dragging it.. but im not. It just infinitely repeats it self. Same goes for deleting a square. Now if I select the whole thing, it will delete or move.

There is something im not getting here :p

I have seen what it sonds like your describing when a file created in a newer version of Illustrator is saved down to a older version of Illustrator then opened back into a newer version.

The prepress dept. I work has G4s and G5s with different versions of Illus. and this happens every now and then.
