Weird Faxmodem problem 1

Can anybody think of any reason at all why a brand new fax machine (Canon - MF5770) would receive and send "regular" faxes just fine but can never receive faxes from automated computer type systems? If I just fax some paper to my branch they get it. But if I try to send anything from a computer fax it won't. (Users say they hear a beep and then nothing) And it's happening no matter who tries to send the fax or from what location (branch receives faxes from hospitals all over the state).

Their old fax machine was hooked to the same phone line and it had no problems. It died of old age and we put in a new CAnon and sent a test fax to HQ and received it back from HQ and figured "Woohoo! Job's done" but the branch says they can't get anything when it's sent from an automated system/computer.

I've glanced through the manual but haven't noticed anything that would indicate we set something up wrong (Heck, setup was plug in phone line, power, paper and bye bye)

I just changed the receive mode from fax only to faxtel - we'll see what happens.

By computer fax I assume that you are talking about a fax/modem and not a Dialogic (or other CTI) card.

Some of the newer fax machines have a "Super G3" mode, where they basically connect to each other at 33.6Kbps and do a data transfer, rather than adhering to the fax protocol. I guess that it would be possible (but seems unlikely) that this fax is trying to connect in data mode to the fax/modem, causing your fax program to fail.

I did a quick check, and it appears that this model falls into that category. You might want to see if there is a possibility to disable that functionality to test.
