Exchange 2000 Server - Clients running Office XP

On certain email messages, whenever the User attempts to open them, they get the following error message: "Can't open this item. Path does not exist. Make sure the path is correct."

This happens on emails with or without attachments, sometimes it is a new email, a reply to email my User sent, or something trying to be forwarded to my Users.

Any suggestions!?!?

Hi,

Did you ever find out the cause of this was or a solution? I am having the exact same problem and would be nice to know if this is a problem with Outlook itself or is this a problem with the Exchange server?

Cheers

This was an old post!! I did figure it out though. : )

This issue was related to the wrong version of Antivirus software loaded on the Server. It wasn't compatible with Exchange at all, only with Windows, so the eMail Server was full of viruses. I think it was deleting the messages, but not telling Exchange (atleast that is what CA said). Unfortunately, the previous Admin (I started here after all this happened) thought that Server Antivirus covered Exchange as well.

I have since gotten rid of that Server completely. I upgraded to Windows 2003 w/ Exchange 2003 running Symantec Mail Security for Exchange, and things have been running perfectly since then.

Hi,

Thanks for that. Do you know what anti virus software was installed on the server that was causing the trouble to begin with?

Cheers

Computer Associates. I don't remember the exact version though...
