weird call-forwarding problem with BCM 400 ver 3.7 1

This BCM has 8 POTS lines coming into it. Line 8, which I'll call 123-4567, is extended: it also appears on a jack that serves a POTS interface to a security radio (walkie-talkie) system. Lines 1 through 7 are in Line Pool A.

Line 1 and Line 8 both need to appear & ring on DN 3000 (Dispatch). If you call Line 8 directly, it rings on both DN 3000 and the radio sets, no problem.

At night, the Security people forward DN 3000 to Line 8 (Feature 4, 91234567). The set's display shows Forwarded>91234567. Theoretically all of DN 3000's calls should ring on the radio phone. But when someone calls DN 3000, they hear a dial tone, then ringback, then a busy signal. If a security officer picks up on the first ring, they may be able to hear each other over the busy signal, maybe not.

When I tried it, I heard a second dial tone maybe five seconds after the first, as if the BCM was trying to dial the call again.

What is going on here? I thought maybe the Auto-Attendant was picking up, but it's not.

Thanks, all.

Make Line 8 just Appear on DN 3000. With Line set to Appear & Ring it's like having it just forward in a Loop so the sytem does not know what to do with the call.

I see your logic -- thank you very much, it's a load off my mind.

But Line 8 needs to ring on DN 3000 somehow, because that's how the Security people get calls from police departments etc.

How about having Line 8 A&R on some other set, and put an Answer DN of that set on DN 3000?

Answer DN also rings so I think it will still try to follow.
Does Line 8 also need to go to the Radio at Night? If not you can try this:
Put Line 8 in a Hunt Group and make DN 3000 a member of that Group.

If it does then try to do this using Services

You're right, it still follows even through an Answer DN. And even with Busy on DND = Yes, the set tries to forward the call it just placed to itself . . . . In short, I've wasted way too much time trying to be clever and not just add an ATA.

Line 8 needs to ring on the Radio especially at Night.

So here's the way to do it, I think: put an ATA on the system, connect the Radio phone to the ATA (not to the street); put DN 3000 and the Radio set in a Ringing Group; institute Night Service. Simple. I'm a little worried about the ATA doing its job as a member of the Ringing Group -- the IATA on our CICS in the shop doesn't ring in that situation. But we suspect that IATA is flaky anyway. The M0x8A on our shop MICS does the job fine; Hopefully the BCM's ATA will do the same.

it sounds to me that if you call line 8 it tries to forward to line 8 at night so of course it will get the busy signal
the way i would do it (and have done similar)if you do not want to use an ata is to use the service functions.
remove the ringing of line 8 from 3000 that way when you forward the set it does not try to forward line 8 to itself.
program night service to ring line 8 to 3000 then during the day have the night service on (change the name to day mode)
then at night go to regular mode and fwd the set .

if you use an ata for the radio's then all you need to do is have that set ring line 8 and fwd 3000 to ata

hope this gives you an idea

Use Hunt Group I just tested and it works great.
Remove Line 8 from DN 3000
Put Line 8 in a Hunt Group by itself.
Assign 3000 as the only member and have the Hunt Group Appear & Ring.

When someone calls the number for line 8 it will ring at both places even if 3000 is forwarded. If someone calls 3000 directly it will forward like you want it to.

Hawks gets the prize -- I went out there last Friday, configured in the Hunt Group stuff (in about two minutes, that's how easy it was) and bingo, it worked. Thanks, you made my day!
