Weird behavior with SP and regedit

Hi everyone.
I have this win2K server with SP1. I want to install SP4 but after 30-45 secs, the SP installation windows disappears. If I try installing SP 4 with Windows in Save Mode, almost at the end of the installation, I got an error that says something like 'cannot update metabase', and installation reverts.

Plus, if I try to edit the registry with regedit or reget32, after few seconds, the window closes so I can't do anything in there.

I've scanned my computer with NetShield and Norton Corporate. I've also downloaded the McAfee stinger and no viruses have been found at this moment.

Any idea ??? I want to avoid reinstallation !

Try downloading and installing SP2 or SP3 first before jumping to SP4.
