weird audio problem with 6.5

The strangest this happened... I'm using Premiere 6.5 and all of a sudden I can't hear the audio playing through my speakers. I can hear the audio when I scrub the timeline, it plays back fine through the TV monitor and the DV cam, but just not through the desktop speakers. I haven't knowingly changed any of the settings and I've checked over those that I would normally change and can't find the problem. The speakers play fine with all the other media programs and when I play back clips from the web.

Truly weird... any ideas?
