Ive never built an AMD b4, i have a 2000+ and an asus a7v8x board. When i turn it on, it turns off for 1 second and then back on.
Seems to work fine apart from that.

Anyone know the cause or have any advice?

much appreciated

turns off for 1 sec?

are you sure it's not just the screen refreshing or something?

I've never heard of anything like this before...

Its definately the computer..

The cpu fan starts.. hear first beep, fan slows down, stops, and pretty much as soon as it stops, starts again, beeps and continues..

When fans stop even for a couple of seconds it's worrying.
As you know without the fan an AMD won't last for more than 10/15 seconds and without a heatsink attached less than 5! (I had an ECS K7S5A based PC in for repair last week with a dead CPU, so I replaced his old XP1.8 for an XP2.0+ and started a clean install of XP, it was 10 minutes into the installation and the fan suddenly stopped, it took me by suprise and by the time I realised I yanked out the power cord, too late!!! that was maybe 10 seconds max (turned out to be the motherboard)
If I had to take a guess I would say you have a motherboard or power supply fault.

I see, but it still runs fine regardless, ive just finished a 2003 server install and its been on a good hour after that, im keeping an eye on the fan..

Maybe you've got a memory problem as well, or a bios issue, i mean there are a multitude of things it could be.. Maybe your power supply is dying as well. I would try different components 1 by 1 in order to figure out which component is not working properly. Keep us posted

it might be that the starting current is to much for your psu (maybe a bad capacitator). check mobo/psu.
try a simple config (hd/grafik/cpu/ram).

How big is the power supply? Unplug the CD Rom(s) and pull any cards not needed. See if you have the same problem.
