hi.

Probably you don't have index.cfm as default content page.
You can add it by this process:
- click on website properties
- click on documents tab
- be sure you have checked Enable default content page
- add index.cfm as your next index page and for it priority order

If you request without specified page, then IIS will look for defined Enable default content pages. Then will try find every page in defined order and serve it. If nothing is found, it will serve 404.


The second reason could be in web application, which could return 404 http header.
 
Actually, the index.cfm was in there. The problem was somebody/some process made the default folder for this website hidden. I had to remove hidden property. Appearently, IIS does not process hidden folders.
