Hi,

I'm new to Websphere world. I have just installed Websphere Studio Applicatioin Developer Integration Edition 5.0. I read the documentation at IBM site but still have few doubts. I would really appreciate if anybody could help.

1. Is WSAD just an IDE like JDeveloper from Oracle, Visual Interdev from MS ?

2. It does not contain application sever and web server. Is this correct ?

3. Can I integrate JBoss/Tomcat with WSAD ?

Thanks

1) It is an IDE, built on Eclipse. It is quite feature rich, and I find it more capable than other IDE's that were forced down my throat. Other than being a memory hog, it is quite stable and mature.

2) It does contain test application servers, which you can configure to run on port 80 as a web server. I'm using 5.1.1 and it has access to WAS 4.0, WAS 5.0, and WAS 5.1.

3) I believe that you can integrate JBoss/Tomcat, if they have plugins for the eclipse platform. I haven't used either JBoss or Tomcat, so I could be completely wrong. I'm just reporting what I heard at the Advisor Live converence.

I think that you have WSAD plugins either for JBoss and TomCat. I also think you can find them and people whou uses them at and associated forums.

Cheers.
