My company upgraded my Windows/XP-Pro to SP2, plus about 16 patches.

My WebSM has not worked ever since. I cannot connect to my HMC. I have tried reinstalling the remote_client and the remote_client_security code. All that is get when I launch WebSM is a DOS window with this:

Changing to directory C:\Program Files\websm\codebase

Using Java:
java full version "J2RE 1.4.2 IBM Windows 32 build cn142-20050609"

C:\Program Files\websm\codebase>java -Dremote.auiml="true" -Xms20m -Xmine4m -Xmx512m
-ss128k -DIDebug.enabled=false -DWEBSM_NO_REMOTE_CLASS_LOADING=false -DWEBSM_NO_SECU
RITY_MANAGER=false -Djava.security.policy=..\config\websm.policy -Dawt.appletWarning
="Remote class Window" -DWEBSM_ALL_PERMISSIONS_FOR_SECURE=true -DWSMDIR="C:\Program
Files\websm" -Dremote.auiml="true" com.ibm.websm.console.WConsole

Does anyone know how to fix this? They tell me that the firewall function of SP2 has been turned off because it causes a lot of other problems with Tivoli ptoducts.

Out of curiousity, did you try shutting the firewall on your pc off? That's not the fix you're looking for, but it might point you in the right direction.

I have XP sp2 running on my laptop and I don't have any problems with websm. I don't have a firewall exception either.
