Hello all,
I have the need for an interesting solution. I have been asked to design a system for a website that will host approx 3 TB of data. I know that I will need a central data storage solution and I was thinking about a clustered NAS box. My main question on this is this a smart solution or is a NAS box too slow for serving files for a website? I need a somewhat high speed box to serve the webservers the data. Any Ideas? Oh and I do have another question, with the NAS box, are they smart enough to recognize new drives and just add the space to the drive? I was thinking about a SAN solution, but it seemed like too much for the solution that I need.

Thanks

mel

Will this website be doing tons of transactions/sec? NAS is typically used for serving files (CIFS) for home space or departmental shares. You may need to look into an iSCSI solution which is just like SAN but uses your core network infrastructure instead.
