My kid uses my Ubuntu PC to go on the internet. That's fine, but I am curious as to why he always deletes the website history when he's done.

Does anyone know of a good (and simple) logging application that will tell me what websites he's been on, even after he deletes the history?

From the top of my head, you have 2 options:

1. Install a proxy on you PC have your browser connect through it. Accessing the logs would give you a very simple and clear indication of what your kid has been browsing. A Proxy might be a tad difficult to setup & and easily noticed.

2. Install a keylogger to track what your kid is typing. The information you collect may be overwhelming but you can track almost all his/her online activities including email & IM chat sessions.

While searching for a solution to your issue, I came across this:

Started making me think....You can use any sniffer with filters (tcpdump, Wireshark, etherape, ethereal, etc) to monitor the traffic. Granted, you'll probably get overloaded with info, but soon, you can become quite proficient at diagnosing, filtering out the stuff you don't want.
