We have a program that pulls up hundreds of websites from different servers and then is rendered.

The problem we have is that there is one website that has a slow loading image. This causes our program to fail on it because we have a one minute time out.
The time out can not be changed and the website owner will not correct his image file to load faster.

Is there a way to make the computer pulling the image to ignore the website address for the image and pull the image file from a cache version or static version on the local disk.
I was thinking of using the /etc/hosts file but I am not sure it can do what we want, for example

if the link is
Can we have the computer pull up the image from

C:\somedirectory\image1.gif

Any ideas? thanks in advance for any help that can be offered.

When you download the HTML from the original webserver can you not replace the src property for the relevant image?
