For two week straight I’ve had problems with the auto update on WebShield (v 4.5 MR1a for Exchange 2000 sp3 running on Windows 200 sp4). Each week the new dat file loads but the MailScan service will not restart. It shows app event message “WebShield SMTP Service - Startup Error: Another service is already listening on port 25; change your Read Port and restart the WebShield SMTP MailScan service.” Since the autoupdate runs at 3:00 am this results in the MailScan service and, therefore, the SMTP engine not running until I manually restart it. When I start the service it starts quickly and cleanly with no errors.
The application event log indicates that the MailScan service attempts to shutdown, startup, shutdown again and startup again in a matter of 2 seconds.
We have not changed any ports on Exchange or on WebShield. The MailScan service is configured to restart on failure but after a one minute wait so I don’t think that’s causing the shutdown/restart problem. I did install HotFix 8 on WebShield but this problem did not appear until two week later, meaning it went through one dat file autoupdate sequence correctly after the install of the HotFix.
Does anyone know of any problem with the autoupdate process that’s causing this? Is there any configuration I can adjust on my end?
