Hi
I have Webshield SMTP 4.5 Mr1aH8 on W2K server.
When I use file attachment option in content filtering it doesn't block the attachment. However, when a message contains a word like exe (which should block only as attachment) the mail is blocked.

Any thoughts?

Have you checked the 'Attachment file name' box and set *.exe (or whatever) in the word/phrase?

And I can only assume you've checked 'Enable content filtering' too. ;o)

Save your config to a file and check the Filter Rules section. I think that SMTP_SCAN_ATTACHMENTS_FLAG, SMTP_CONTENT_FILTER_FLAG and SMTP_CONTENT_FILTER_ON should all be set to '1'.

thanks theboyhope
I checked them - they all set to 1

anything else?

Well, I can only think that it's not set up correctly.

Edit one of your content filter rules and check that 'Filter email messages based on' is set to 'Attachment file name' - NOT 'Body text'.

Done that alraedy too...
one thing did chenage though. I set it to *.exe and not .exe like NAI's instructed. sometimes it is blocking attachments.
