aix/perts,

i'm trying to configure a webserver and got this error:

chown: 3002-131 imnadm is an unknown username.
Error changing ownership of the docsearch CGIs in the CGI_DIRECTORY.

any idea?

i tried changing ownership (chown) and even file permission (chmod).

If an error is received during the install that is similar to:

chown: 3002-131 imnadm is an unknown username.
Error changing ownership of /var/docsearch directories !

Enter the following:

mkuser imnadm
mkgroup imnadm

aixqueen,

these ones work:

mkuser imnadm
mkgroup imnadm

but even before this, i was able to browse the internet. when i tried to issue "docsearch" from the command line - it gives me the netscape browser with error;

Netscape is unable to locate server <hostname>.
Please check the server name and try again.

/etc/hosts contains the <hostname> and it's IP address. i can even use "host <hostname>" and got the right hostname and address.;

and

Netscape's network connection was refused by the server xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. The server may not be accepting connections or may be busy. Try connecting again later. -which i did and got the same thing...

i also check path /usr/HHTPServer/cgi-bin & htdocs, both were present

any idea?

I know that is a lot of stuff to look through

But in a nutshell, I don't think you set up your webserver or your defaultbrowser

smitty web_configure........
but it depends if you have everything loaded for what you are doing...

Read through the docs above...including the last ones....where it goes into the different servers and make sure it is set up correctly......

There are also settings in netscape...

At least it will get you started?

thanks aixqueen,

actually, i am using the same site where you got those links (URLs). i think i just run-out of option/s that's why i posted it here and my first time configuring a webserver (in preparation for my certification).

i'll try to run-through to all those docs, maybe i just missed something in there.

re smitty web_configure or smit web_configure - i am sure i set the write path/options. i even tried both "Doclib Setup for Lite NetQuestion and IBM HTTP Web Server at 4.3.3", at once.

i'll give you feedback.

aixqueen,

the one that you posted on thread52-215117 was awesome... HTTPD on RS6000....

aix/perts,

initially - i was able to setup/configure Lite NetQuestion web server. after i tried shifting it to HTTP webserver, i wasn't able to bring it back.

I got these errors:

1.Netscape is unable to locate the server localhost:49213.
Please check the server name and try again.

*** I tried and check my servername under hosts table, it's there. Also, /etc/environment.

2. tried running /usr/HTTPServer/bin/httpd

httpd:cannot determine local hostname.
use the servername directive to set it manually

i almost tried every combinations and tried to trace PATH one-by-one. i even check filsets completeness, lppchk -v, it's complete.

any expert help will be highly appreciated.
