I have a webserver that hosts about 600 sites(OS win 2000AS).I start the Indexing service and it then it takes between 3 to 4 minutes for the webser to completely freeze up.If I was using terminal services, I would then have to go phisically to the box to restart it from the on/off button on the server.
If you login from the console the same thing happens. After the same amount of time the whole webserver freezes up and pressing alt, ctrl&del does not work,in fact nothing responds. The only way as I mentioned before is to reboot it via the on/off switch.Since I stopped the indexing service the webserver is fine.I uninstalled service pack 3,all the security fixes as well as the MDAC.After reinstalling the above, the server is now running fine without any hiccups.Exept that the Indexing service is not running.
