Webpart Client Side file linking

We are trying to run some client side scripting that starts with a .htm file. We have proceeded through the steps that MSDN lay out in their documentation. It specifies a .js file as the link. Does anyone know if you can call a .htm file this way? Obviously this is not working for us.

A bit more information, please.

1. What platform is this on? STS, WSS, Portal 2003, Portal 2001?

2. How are you running the scripts? As a Content Page Viewer Web Part or actually opening the page in an editor and placing the script in it?

3. Why .htm? If it's strictly a JavaScript file with <script> and </script> rather than the <html> and </html>, why not rename it to .js? You can "link" to it (I don't think the file extention matters:
