does anyone know of a list of all the different extentions for web files and what they mean? and also what do ww1, ww2, and ww3 mean? (ie, ww3.someSite.com/index.htm) -Greg :-Q

Hi,

The ww1, ww2 and ww3 can be used as subdomains.

Instead of example.domain.com you could use ww1.domain.com.

Your dns records have to point those subdomains to your server though.

Well, there are TONS of extensions, but among the more prominent ones:

HTM/HTML - hypertext markup language files
ASP - Active Server Pages
ASPX - ASP.NET page
JSP - Java Server Pages
CFM - ColdFusion Markup
PHP - hypertext processor
SHTML - server-parsed HTML
JHTML - Java-induced HTML
JS - JavaScript/JScript
SWF - Flash animation


As for the " usually was the way companies made reference to mirrored servers, or it may be a subdomain, like wullie pointed out. If you visited Netscape's site back in the old days (circa '96), it wasn't uncommon for you to get:
