Hi,

I'm looking for a webmail client for our company's email system. Basically, what I have is a mail server on the internal network and a mail relay in my DMZ. Incoming mail goes to the relay server (also an anti-spam server) and is relayed to the internal mail server. Outgoing mail is forwarded to the Internet via the DMZ relay.

As I don't really want Internet-based company employees connecting directly to my internal mail server, I'm looking for a webmail client that I can install on my relay server. The webmail client would in turn access the user's mail folders on the internal mail server via IMAP.

I've seen several possible options, but haven't been able to discern whether or not the programs in question will do this. My internal mail server actually does have webmail service, but isn't outfitted to do what I'm trying to do.

I've also thought of some other options (RAS, etc) that could be used to authenticate Internet-based company employees before allowing access to the internal mail server (if option 1 couldn't be done).

Any suggestions would be appreciated - thanks...

Ok, now you tell us everything, except.. WHAT mail server are you using.

Well gosh, you're right! The relay is a W2K Adv server running IIS/SMTP + ASSP (for anti-spam). The internal server is from Code-Crafters; the Ability Mail Server, which has POP3, IMAP, SMTP, and WebMail features.

Well, a WEBMail client is a browser, IE, FireFox, ....

If you want more security, a VPN connection may be an option.

Ummm.....

While a browser (such as IE or Firefox) provides the user interface, a webmail client is an application that resides on a server and enables you to access your mail via the browser. The application (such as the @Mail client, IMP, etc) accesses a mailstore, typically via IMAP but sometimes POP, and displays the authenticated user's mail in the browser.

A VPN is a great idea, but my users aren't always at a computer that they can establish a VPN from so it's not a great solution in this case.

Thanks anyway...

ok, we are mixing terminology. A client is always the user end, but I see what you mean.
I suppose they call their part a 'client' but that does not matter.
Since you stated earlier your mail server supports WebMail, surely you must have documentation on it?
I assume you have at least the professional Edition.
